It looks like the rocksolid.* hierarchy is now listed in isc.org active file
ftp://ftp.isc.org/pub/usenet/CONFIG/active

I believe it was listed today (5 May, 2020).

I know of a number of usenet providers scattered around the world that carry
rocksolid, but this will hopefully lead to more, so the chances of losing
messages due to a server going down will be even more reduced. The chances
are slim now, as quite a few things need to fail at the same time to be a
problem, but more servers holding the articles, the chance of losing them is
slim.

Hopefully a few servers with long retention will carry the groups (I have
three inn servers in different locations that never expire rocksolid), but
the more there are, especially under someone else's control, the better.

Also, any rslight install creates a spool of the articles, which can be
transferred to another nntp server at any time.

20 groups out of 45410 --> rocksolid is 0,004% of the usenet.

I saw the control messages for the rocksolid hierarchy and enabled it
on my news server (https://news.alphanet.ch/, albeit in French)

Let's see if you get this message.

You can also read the rocksolid hierarchy here (no account required)

https://nnrp.alphanet.ch/rocksolid

However, we do not keep long-term archives (only about one month).

Best regards from Switzerland.

actually, 20/45410 is more like 0,04% :-)

really nice to see this kind of spread, honestly i am a bit surprised (in a good way). i never thought of this when we started our activities some two years ago.

greetings to switzerland from onion and garlic country :-)

Now, there are thousands of unused newsgroups, or newsgroups
with just spam.

Thanks for applying the checkgroups and adding rocksolid. It's nice to know
I got the control message formatting correct, which took me a few tries.

It's nice to have more locations for people to access if they wish, even
without long retention. Even a few days retention can help a node recover
lost articles.

Thank you and same!

Also, if you are interested in peering, I am the admin of i2pn.org
(https://www.i2pn2.org/common/peering.html). Just let me know if you are
interested and we can set it up. (admin@i2pn.org)
