The discussion at

https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/2848:_Breaker_Box

had some fun with "hot-water heater", but there *is* a situation in
which it would be plausible to heat hot water.

Some homes have a small quick-recovery water heater under each sink.
This avoids the heat loss in long thin pipes, and the heat loss from a
large mass of water kept hot for a long time.

It would be quite plausible to add such a heater under the kitchen
sink to a home already plumbed with a central water heater, so that
there would be hot water for washing dishes after the main heater is
set to germ-incubation temperature to safeguard old folks and small
children.

Yup, my parents have an instahot at the kitchen main sink. And it is
bloody hot, it will burn you if you turn it on full hot. It is a 120
volt circuit. Not sure how many amps.
