You've all seen the note atop this page: "... Google Groups will no longer support new Usenet content. ..." Will there be a replacement somewhere, or will this forum just go poof into the night?

Usenet will continue, it was never part of Google Groups, there was just
a (subpar) Google Groups interface to it. You can continue to access
Usenet with a free subscription from https://www.eternal-september.org/
or a approx $15/year subscription (with more benefits) from news.individual.net

You will need a client, for example thunderbird (free) to go with your
subscription.

Yep, and Usenet was around 20 years before Google even existed. :-)
(I don't know when this particular newsgroup was created.)

I've been using Xnews ever since Google destroyed Deja News. Still
works great, even if it hasn't had an update in 20 years.

Well, I use trn myself, but I got the feeling that the OP probably
wasn't a Unix/Linux command line guy, so I wanted to suggest something
that would work on Windows.

I started with nn, then XVnews when I got a SPARCstation. (Later, had
to fix Y2K issues in that one.) Since retiring and moving to a Windows
laptop Thunderbird has been my email and Usenet client of choice.

Xnews is a Windows program. No installation either. Just unpack
and go. I've tried to go with more updated clients (Like Pan,
Agent and Thunderbird). I'm too used to Xnews' features and GUI.
I'll probably use it until it finally stops working.
