Found this somewhere.

Recorded in Hollywood 412 Daddy Loves Baby / My Love Comes Tumbling Down 1952
This single was slotted for release, but may never have been more than a demo or deejay copy.

Roger, are you willing to share with us your current 1951 list?

I intend to post *my* Top 1951 list, by artist, and I'd like to
consider the very best R&B, and the very best other genre music, from
1951.

Thankfully, I now have a playlist of Bruce's great Top 100 from 1951,
as of 2004, to listen to and personally consider, record by record.

I have all 3 of these in 1952. They were recoded in 50 and 51, but were released in 52 according to the Bear Family Box. None were reviewed.

No and this is really bothering me.

I didn't notice it till you mentioned it but I've no idea why or how this got in there since
I can't find any mention of such record anywhere

(It's in the "graded 8" section of the list but can't be "Justice Blues" since that appears lower in the 7's)

Take it out, move Fats up one spot and "T-99 Blues" Jimmie Nelson makes the new last place

Now excuse me while I go do a spot of disembowling to atone for such a fuckup

These all appeared on Imperial's short lived "Colony" label.

I think Bear Family are wrong on the release dates as I believe they appeared in 1951

(If the Colonys WERE in 1952 that means Smiley only had ONE record released in the whole of 1951?? )

Not hard to believe as none of his early records were hits. Bear Family had the files for the box set as they have all the session details in the booklet. The only things in the 1951 Galen Gart are a mention of "Dirty People" as a regional hit the first week of January, and then an Imperial ad for about 5 records with one of them being that one release, "Bee's Boogie" / "My Baby Was Right."

Okay, just read the booklet and they say that "Don't Jive Me" b/w "Sad Life" was released in the late summer of 1951. They said that it was supposed to be an Imperial released but was downgraded to the Colony label. So I am moving that one. Nothing about the other Colony release, but if it was 1951 it would have had to have come out very late in the year, December. First mention of Smiley in the 1952 Galen Gart comes on page 70.

Roger, thanks especially for introducing me to 'The Be-Bop Boy and His
One Man Band' Joe Hill Louis, and to the rockin' pianist Willie Love.

The exciting reverb guitar (by Elmore James?) on Willie Love's
"Everybody's Fishing" perhaps is ahead of its time?
