DISK O’THE WEEK

BLUE BARRON ORCH. (MGM 10185)

"You Were Only Fooling" (3:01)
"It's Easy When You Know How" (2:54)

Sure to score with phono fans throughout the land is this latest disking
by the Blue Barron ork. It’s the plush, soft and delicate air of “You Were
Only Fooling” coupled with the dreamy atmosphere that the Barron boys
give with that label this piece tops. With balladeer Clyde Burke and the
Blue Notes in the vocal spotlight to offer the pleasant wordage, the deck
fairly reeks of the buffalo heads sure to come. Clyde’s vocal interpretation
of this romantic ballad is superb. His velvet tonsils purr the affectionate
lyrics in smooth styling throughout the waxing. Orchestral backing by Blue
and the crew rates a salute—it’s that good. Waxing is offered in drea my,
lilting manner sure to win wide approval—especially so from the moon-struck
kiddies. Backing is a piece that has kicked around a bit, with Clyde and the
vocal combo delivering another mellow performance. Latin beat in the back-
ground offers a kick for the hip-swivelers. “You Were Only Fooling” won’t
fool in the phono—it’s a nickel nabber if there ever was one.

THE RED CAPS Beacon 4120) (Reissue of 1944 release)

"Words Can't Explain" (2:48)
"Strictly On The Safety Side" (2:56)

Sure to click with music ops—and click in a big way is this bit by The
Red Caps. Titled “Word’s Can’t Explain,” the combo display their top
notch harmony on this soulful piece in fine manner. Stuff is soothing
and relaxing and makes for pleasant listening throughout. On the ro-
mantic side, the wax should go over big with the moon-in-June kids.
Flip is another comer for the group, wailing the brilliant wordage in
excellent styling all thru. Both sides of this platter definitely rate your
listening time.

GORDON MacRAE (Capitol 15072)

"It's Magic" (3:02)
"Spring In December" (2:56)

Plug tune from the forthcoming Warner Brothers flicker “Romance On
The High Seas” and piper Gordon MacRae on deck for the vocal magic
of “It’s Magic.” Natch, the song itself is one that is bound to become a
featured item on ops’ phonos. Gordon’s rendition adds to its coin culling
potential all the more. Flip is a ditty that has kicked around a bit, with
Gordon turning in another bril- liant performance. The kid’s pipes make
for melodic listening pleasure. His wide gathering bevy of fans are sure
to go for this pair in a big way. Ops take note.
