FABIAN (Chancellor 1041)

“COME ON AND GET ME” (1:58) [Rambed-Jimskip BMI — Salmirs, Zober]
“GOT THE FEELING” (2:10) [Rambed-Merge BMI — Sherman]

The only “problem” here is which side will out distance the other on the
charts. “Come On And Get Me” is an invitation resembling the teen idol’s
“Turn Me Loose” smash, while “Got The Feeling” is a driving piece on the
order of the current Fabian triumph, “Tiger.”

THE PLATTERS (Mercury 71502)

“WHERE” (2:38) [Argo BMI—Tschaikovsky, Paul]
“WISH IT WERE ME” (2:38) [A.M.C. ASCAP—Ram]

Mercury’s hit-makers should soon be adding another pair of chart
triumphs to to their star-studded career with their presentations of
“Where” and “Wish It Were Me.” Former’s an ultra lovely lyric adap-
tation of a theme from Tschaikovsky’s “Pathetique Symphony,” while
the latter’s an extremely pretty newcomer from the up-coming flick,
“Girl’s Town.” Stellar ork support on these two fine beat-ballad stanzas.

KINGSTON TRIO (Capitol 31766)

“A WORRIED MAN” (2:50) [Harvard-Highridge-Glazer, Guard]
“SAN MIGUEL” (2:12) [Harvard-Highridge-Bowers]

“Worried Man” is the popular group’s happiest single outing to date. Infectious
folk oldie is rendered in spirited (and authoritative) folk fashion by the team.
Boys have a high chart position wrapped around their fingers here (it will follow
team’s “M.T.A.” click). “San Miguel” beautifully changes the pace; it’s a haunting
opus featuring Dave Guard on lead.

JACKIE WILSON (Brunswick 55149)

“YOU BETTER KNOW IT” (1:59) [Pearl BMI—Wilson, Henry]
“NEVER GO AWAY” (2:05) [Murjac BMI—Wolf, Raleigh]

Jackie Wilson’s back with another one of those “That’s Why” type
rafter-shakers, and it’s more than likely it’ll be up on the lists in no
time flat. “You Better Know It” is the tag of the newie set to replace
his current chart-rider, “I’ll Be Satisfied.” Side, included in the “Go
Johnny Go” flick, finds Jackie engaging in some happy rock-play with
the chorus and ork. More sock rock results on the “Never Go Away”

ANDY WILLIAMS (Cadence 1370)

“LONELY STREET” (2:43) [Four Star BMI—Sowder, Hearn, Belew]
“SUMMER LOVE” (2:48) [Kay Thompson BMI—Thompson]

Andy Williams’ long-running “Hawaiian Wedding Song” should find its
chart follow-up in either or both “Lonely Street” and “Summer Love,”
“Street” is tear-compelling, slow-paced entry from the country dept,
that Williams dual-tracks with touching sincerity. “Summer” is a sea-
sonal ballad offering tenderly caressed by Andy’s velvety-smooth
tones. A double-barreled delight for the platter spinners.

THE JOHNNY OTIS SHOW (Capitol 4260)

“BABY, JUST YOU” (2:15) [El Dorado BMI—Otis]
“LET THE SUN SHINE IN MY LIFE” (2:19) [El Dorado BMI—Otis]

The Johnny Otis Show reveals its grade “A” rock-a-ballad style on this Capitol outing.
The crew, which’ll be remembered for its many up-beat chart items, superbly fashions
(with Johnny in the solo spotlite) two string-filled, heartfelt romancers tabbed “Baby,
Just You” and “Let The Sun Shine In My Life.” Back-to-back, dual-mart winners. Like
’em both.

LITTLE RICHARD (End 1057)

“TROUBLES OF THE WORLD” [Eiid & Alan K. BMI—Arr. by Goldner]
“SAVE ME LORD” [End & Alan K. BMI—Arr. by Goldner]

Little Richard, who left the disk scene awhile back to enter the ministry,
returns on the Gone label with sessions in keeping with his new calling.
“Troubles Of The World” is a thrilling portrayal of the spiritual, one that
can command chart attention in pop-R&B-gospel fields. Richard’s familiar
shout technique is expertly employed within the framework of a gospel
group. “Save Me Lord” again generates gospel authority.

THE CASH BOX PICK OF THE WEEK

SAM HAWKINS (Decca 30963)

“LET ME DREAM” (2:31) [We Three BMI—Dixon, Berry, Covay]
“DOES IT REALLY MATTER” (2:45) [Diana ASCAB—Gordon, Hosey]

Hawkins’ has his best disk chance yet on “Let Me Dream,” a rhythmic
rock-a-string affair built a la the Clyde McPhatter tune, “Since You’ve
Been Gone.” Side’s got chart goods. Songster is appealingly easy on
the backside ballad, “Does It Really Matter.” Could move.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ISLEY BROTHERS (RCA Victor 7588)

“SHOUT” (Part 1) (2:15) [Wemar BMI—Isley, Isley, Isley]
“SHOUT” (Part 2) (2:10) [Wemar BMI—Isley, Isley, Isley]

Looks like the boys will crash thru with this Victor outing. Item, both
parts 1 & 2, is an exciting “Shout” opus in the Ray Charles “What’d I
Say” manner. It’s a teener’s upbeat rock dream come true.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THOMAS WAYNE (Fernwood 113)

“GONNA BE WAITIN’” (2:10) [HiLo BMI—Rich]
“JUST BEYOND” (2:05) [Bluff City BMI—Burch, Nelson]

Thomas Wayne, who turned a “Tragedy” into a happy-ending, money-making affair,
should again be raking in coin, this time via “Gonna Be Waitin’.” It’s a mild rocker
with a ‘get-even’ romantic theme that Wayne and the DeLons polish off with solid
sales authority. Bottom side is a slow moving emotional cut done up “Tragedy”-style.
Also rates attention.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“ELMO” STRINGER (Thunder 93)

“TIMES HAVE CHANGED” (2:05) [Friendly BMI — Goss]
Fairly good-sounding* rock novelty about rock ’n roll’s
influence (i.e. Elvis Presley will become President of U.S.).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDUUHTFVYRM

“JUST ONCE, JUST ONCE” (l:41) [Friendly BMI—Goss]
A trace of Fats Waller on this middle beat romantic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JOE BENNETT & SPARKLETONES (Paris 537)

“BOYS DO CRY” (1:47) [Greta BMI—Bennett, Arthur]
Fine light rhythm confession by the boys on the solid
teen romancer. Stands a chance to make the grade.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZme87mns44

“WHAT THE HECK” (1:52) [Greta BMI — Bennett, Arthur]
Boys drive on the romantic novelty about a guy who
gets a “Dear John” letter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PAUL EVANS & CURLS (Guaranteed 200)

“(Seven Little Girls) SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT” (2:14) [Sequence ASCAP—Hilliard, Pockriss]
“WORSHIPPING AN IDOL” (1:14) [Sequence ASCAP—Hilliard, Pockriss]

New Carlton Records affiliate starts off on the right commercial foot with an
engagingly sunny novelty, “Sitting In The Back Seat.” Charming feature is
vocal give-and-take between Evans and gal chorus on the catchy ditty. Can
take off. Lower lid is a good-sounding rhythm piece.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RAY SMITH (Judd 1016)

“ROCKIN’ LITTLE ANGEL” [Stairway Singing River BMI Rogers]
Source of this good-sounding rocker is folk tune “Dance With The
Dolly (With The Hole In Her Stocking)'.” Smith and combo-chorus
friends do a rock job that could pro- duce a chart winner.

“THAT’S ALL RIGHT” (2:01) Dt [Studio Tuneville BMI—Nelson, Burch]
Pro teen rhythm continues here. Can also take the hit path.
