Bashkirov is great. I have that disc with the Ravel (recorded in 1965) which also includes Bach f minor BWV 1056 and Mozart G Major K 453.

I really like this live Ravel Left Hand with Eliso Virsaladze, which I think has some of what Ed was looking for (which is also how I like this piece played).

The opening (from the primal depths!) and the awesome cadenza near the end give me chills...
I haven't heard the Marshev Ed mentioned, but see it on Presto and will give it a listen.

Another classic is Michel Beroff:

I find it "interesting" that 2 great
Ravel pianists, MA and ABM have
both avoided it. Does anyone know
why?

Among recent performances Juan
Pérez Floristán is very good:

It so happens that the Beroff was the first recording of the Ravel LH Concerto that I got on CD, back in the late 80's, though I haven't heard it in years. I just pulled it off the shelf to get re-acquainted. I don't know why MA/ABM have avoided it.

I may be the odd one out here but I've never liked the LH Concerto and never listen to it. Like Bolero.
