I see that on June 2nd Archipel released some CDs of Szell radio
recordings. Most of them have appeared previously on various labels
(Guild, Great Conductors, etc), but it is possible that the transfers
are better or there might be new material in this series.

For example, I don't remember seeing a live Dvorak cello concerto with
Fournier and Szell previously:

This includes a La Mer that was on the Great Conductors album, but the
Mozart 32 might also be new.

I just listened to the Dvorak and the sound is poor and the performance
is better in every way on the DG version...

Highly unlikely. The original tapes have probably long disappeared,
or delaminated or decomposed. Most "remasterings" nowadays
are nothing more than remixes of earlier material.

Regardless of sound quality, the problem remains
that Fournier never had what it takes to perform
the Dvorak concerto in a compelling manner. To
see/hear what I mean listen to Paul Tortelier and
to Kian Soltani. Fournier was too straitjacketed
for Dvorak, and so was Szell.
