In 2014 the Salzburg Mozarteum invited Hungarian composer and conductor Peter Eötvös to come and study the archive of unpublished Mozart fragments. These are often just snippets of melodies Mozart forgot about or discarded because he thought of something better.
Nine of these (many connected to a Kyrie) inspired Eötvös to compose Da Capo: Dialoge mit Mozart, for orchestra, premiered in 2016. Maybe it's not an earthshaking work, but I kind of like it. As a conductor Eötvös knows his way around an orchestra.

Makes me think of the sort of thing that Swinburne did with Sapphic fragments, in the long poem called On The Cliffs.

"That strange-eyed spirit-wounded strange-tongued slave
There questing houndlike where the roofs red-wet
Reeked as a wet red grave." etc ad inf.

Reminds me I used to have a three-volume edition of Swinburne poems and ballads, vintage 1910ish, beautifully produced.

It's a supervirtuoso work, both as composition (the name Alhambra as violin soloist Faust's name are set to music) and for the soloist and the orchestra.
