Last night I enjoyed a glorious Bruckner 4 (revised version) from the Philharmoniker, conducted by Jakub Hrusa, which received exuberant applause from the Berlin audience, and rightly so.
The lucky old Royal Opera House in London has appointed Mr Hrusa as its Principal Conductor from 2025. Expect more Janacek. I look forward to seeing whatever he conducts via the ROH streaming service.
Has he conducted in the USA yet? Perhaps not - he's only 42 after all. Give him another thirty years ...

Hrusa is mentioned as a potential MD here in Chicago, and I think he knows he's got an opportunity, though I don't see the CSO picking anyone other than the biggest name they can possibly buy- chidren are not really welcome (even if the member of the orchestra I know sees Mäkelä as the biggest talent they've played under in a long time).

That said, I went to a Hrusa Mahler 9 recently that was one of the better Mahler concerts I've attended. The review below seems to slight the effort because Hrusa's was an energetic reading, which I very much enjoyed. There are other ways, but this worked for me:

The last time I saw Herbert Blomstedt (on Arte, I think) he was assisted to the podium and conducted, seated, what sounded to me like an under-oomphed performance of Neilsen 5. Maybe he is almost old enough?

Add smoke to the mirrors and you'll get a performance conducted by the composer, complete with the banjo parts he put into his original score but was talked out of by his publisher.

At least we know it isn't going to be profound when we put people hardly out of high school in charge of a Sibelius cycle, when in all probability those sad buyers of such don't know those conducted by Berglund, Vanska, Davis, Maazel, Barbirolli, Segerstam, amid a dozen other known greats of the Sibelian art. Next step is a 15 yo conductor directing a "profound" Shosty cycle. And there'll be buyers too, believe it or not.
