I normally don't reply to OT's, but....

There's an old saying among statisticians and probably others: it's not only hard to predict the future, it's almost impossible to predict the past.

My .02: it's partly about insufficient and inaccurate measurement/data, partly about the impossibility of constructing a truly comprehensive model. It's interesting to think about whether machine learning changes this. I suspect not, but how would we ever know?

Push where it gives and scratch where it itches.
