It’s getting to where I can listen to his music for hours at a time with full attention. Meditative, contemplative music par excellence.

Favorite interpreters in order.

1. Alicia De Larrocha
2. Volodos
3. Stephen Hough

Plan to listen more to the composer in the future.
Also hope for more from Benjamin Grosvenor.

I have Jordi Maso, and also Mompou himself on Brilliant Classics. What I like about this music is its freedom from pasted on runs and scales. Refreshing and also relaxing.

i treasure the mompou-plays-mompou CDs, but have neglected to delve into anybody else's interpretations. what do de larrocha, volodos, hough, maso etc bring to the music that mompou himself doesn't?

Although a bit sonically compromised (not bad though), Mompou plays Mompou is very good. He was 81 when he recorded his music, but obviously brings authenticity closer. Maso is ok too, although I haven't heard Volodos or Hough who I hear from reviews are both very good.

Listening in depth to Mompou playing his own music is definitely on my list of things to do.

I tried Maso, but what kept me from enjoying it is the sound. Part of it is Naxos, which is all over the map in sound quality. They produce everything from excellent to not very good engineering. Mompou’ s music, to my ears demands a deep, bottom of the key sound.

Volodos / Sony is superb in this regard. It is luminous, also due to Volodos’ imaginative pedalling.

It’s a mystery to me why De Larrocha’s complete Canciones y Danzas on RCA is not streamed and may no longer be available. It’s a great recording.
