Between the fact that Philly's leading corporations don't support the Orchestra like those in some other cities - including cross-state Pittsburgh; the reduction in their income from China due to Covid and the strain in relations between the U.S. and China; the fact that they don't regularly sell out their hall; and the fact that the Annenbergs and most of the old Main Line people who used to give large donations are gone and their children and grandchildren don't seem to care as much about classical music - Philly is currently a very rough market for an elite Orchestra. As a result, they may not remain elite for many years longer.

Always interesting to read a comment from a local, Phl - I've read the same comment about the dwindling supply of "old money" in Philly elsewhere. Anyway, should the orchestra be wound up, I look forward to hearing the William Penn Ensemble, the Philadelphia Pro Musica Antiqua, the Kensington Chorale, the Ormandy String Quartet, etc., etc. It doesn't have to be a conventional 'symphony' to put the city on the map.
