If you like, go ahead and order it, knowing you'll
have to return it when you get the wrong thing sent
from Japan.

It is indeed amazon's fault when they misidentify
products, as amazon makes an effort to keep it's
customers in the dark about what they ordering.

Amazon prefers to seen as welcoming returns rather
list catalog numbers or UPCs, and have the
decency to have a proper search engine.

to Amazon Japan.

I now guess you are talking about the $13.98 price for
a new copy backordered from amazon.com. That is cheap and

No idea what you are talking about. There is no reference to "Japan"
anywhere with this item that I can see. I ordered it through Amazon
Canada. If I have to return it, it will go back to Amazon Canada.

Considering this is the classical music *recordings* group, I figured
that people might have heard of the DGG Avant Garde series, even
though it was released on LP in the late 60s/early 70s.

I found out about this via a Hurwitz review. (The box set was released
almost 2 months ago, duh!) I didn't even listen to the review, I went
immediately to Amazon Canada to order and found the offerings there
and on Amazon USA which are ridiculously cheap. I ordered it through
Amazon Canada; I think I got the last copy, because it doesn't seem to
be easily available any more.

I've now ordered this supposed 'deal' on the AvantGarde box set from Amazon..ca FOUR times! First was a pre-order for $120. The release date came and the order just sat there and I saw it was now selling for just over $30 so I cancelled and re-ordered. Each time I've received a single CD by a band called Love & Death "Between Here & Lost". I have told them NUMEROUS times what the problem probably is. The ASIN # is wrong. The ASIN on Amazon's Canada, UK, France, Japan is B0C64B8P88.

If you go to Amazon.com there are TWO different listing showing the picture for the AvantGarde box.

The ASIN on Amazon Germany, where there is a listing, is B0C64B8P88

Using that and searching on Canada, USA and UK produces results, but
there is nothing for sale at some of these.

According to Amazon Canada, I purchased this item on October 7th (the
last copy, I think).

I have had weird things happen with Amazon before, for example ...

My favorite dishwasher soap used to be available there cheaply. But
the company that made it stopped making it (I e-mailed them to confirm
this).

BUT ... a couple of months later, Amazon.ca was selling boxes of this
dishwasher soap VERY cheaply ... the price was $7.50 or something for
a box which was twice the size of the box for the same price which I
could have paid in Vancouver before the stuff became unavailable.

I was quick to order 2 of these large boxes, which I received with no
problem ... probably enough soap for at least a year.

I figure someone found a pallet of this soap in the Amazon warehouse
and they decided to dump it quickly...

Things don't look promising considering what you have said for the
Avant Garde box, though.

You forgot to say the price in your post.

When I followed your link yesterday it was an offering
from Amazon Japan postpaid at $30. When I checked it a
little later it was $13.98 backordered (2-5 weeks) from
amazon.com. I check today and it is a used copy for $165.06.

I just want to remind everyone that when a price is
said to be cheap or expensive they should be stated
in the post because prices can change rapidly.

The DG page has links but it's still confusing. Of the six sources, only
Presto seems to have it.

Amazon says, "Currently unavailable." but also, "#1 Best Seller."

Are a lot of the problems due to Blind Tiger, who appear to be issuing the DG box? From brief reading I note that Blind Tiger are involved in a fair bit of Christian Rock stuff.

for one of those CDs new is $21.36, so how can they justify charging
$34.36 for this?

Most seeming mistakes at Amazon are too good to be true, and will bite
back. That ASIN no longer leads to anything at all. Amazon still sells
the 21-CD "avantgarde series" (note lack of a space or hyphen), as does
Presto at a considerably lower price, but still well above that too-good-
to-be-true number. (So DG evidently still does distribute it.)
