I turns out that there's more than one kind of Flemish - dialects abound. The main difference, I've been told by Belgians, is that the Flemings pronounce the letter g quite gently without sounding as if they are vigorously clearing their throats.

Also Flemish, not being a Celtic language does not have initial consonant mutation to confuse the unwary and which makes using a Welsh dictionary a bit of a nightmare. An initial m can turn to a v for example. Cf Mihangel (Michael) and Lanvihangel (parish of St Michael) or Mynwy (the River Monnow) and Trevynwy (the town on the Monnow, Monmouth).

Welsh and Russian choral is akin, but similarities end with the emotional language used, Russian being melancholic whereas Welsh is more enigmatic to these ears. Russian also more modal and strong in the lower registers, whereas Welsh stronger in the alto register. Both capable of strong emotional feeling.
