I've been half-watching this movie while working on other things. Saltzman has some fame through his photographs of the Beatles in Rishikesh. It was coincidental that Saltzman sought the Maharishi's purported wisdom at the same time the Beatles did.

Saltzman had decided to try this type of meditation after a girlfriend had left him. He says that he told Lennon his reasons for being there, and that John agreed that love can be rough: "But, you know, Paul, when it comes to love, you always get another chance." Saltzman says this was the kindest thing Lennon could have said to him at the time.
