His AoF is constructed from genuinely independent voices. That’s hard to do, because you have to make them come together into some sort of coherent music while keeping their independence. I’m not sure that he’s successful, it has only just arrived. Successful or not, I think his way is a valid way to play Bach’s later counterpoint and I’m glad to have the recordings. Scarpini is a pianistic Rübsam avant la lettre.

Scarpini’s WTC 2 has a steady pulse. On the positive side, it is intimate and deeply felt. But a steady regular pulse is a bit of a deal breaker for me I’m afraid.
