The first of the Images and always one of my favourite piano pieces.

Never heard of this guy Prof Yves Henry but he plays a nice Bechstein and I found his interpretation interesting. He tours and is in Wiki.

There's alway Michelangeli, but this was a different angle.

Yves Henry has released some valuable Chopin recordings - including, just this month, a CD of Waltzes.

Pourquoi cette double intégrale ? En plus de 20 ans de concerts et de masterclasses pendant lesquels j'ai confronté les œuvres de Chopin tant aux pianos historiques qu'aux pianos modernes, j'ai constaté à quel point l'instrument d'époque obligeait à une relecture attentive et minutieuse du texte. Que ce soit pour la gestion de la dynamique, de la polyphonie ou de la pédale forte, tout est différent. J'aurais pu choisir d'enregistrer ces valses sur un piano d'époque mais j'ai préféré confronter deux versions : l'une sur instrument historique et l'autre sur piano d'aujourd'hui. Le but n'étant pas d'opposer deux lectures en cherchant à convaincre que l'une est meilleure que l'autre, mais plutôt de montrer tout le bénéfice que l'on peut tirer de l'adaptation au piano moderne des réflexions nées de l'utilisation du piano d'époque. Pour cette confrontation passionnante, j'ai choisi deux instruments d'exception : un Pleyel de 2,27 mètres, n° 5612, sorti des ateliers du facteur parisien le 17 avril 1837 et un des nouveaux grands pianos de concert de 2,82 mètres, n° 215 250, sorti de la fabrique du facteur berlinois en 2020. Les circonstances des enregistrements ont été également différentes : d'un côté, l'instrument historique enregistré dans un salon avec du public, et de l'autre le grand piano de concert d'aujourd'hui enregistré dans une salle de concert sans public. Malgré tout, de nombreux points communs existent entre les deux versions, de même que des différences importantes...
