With regard to your question of whether there is a connection between Marilyn Monroe's performance of "Happy Brthday, Mr. President" and her death a few months later, the answer is "Yes," according to a biography of Peter Lawford I've read.

However, I don't think Marilyn killed herself. I think she was deemed a threat. Jackie did not attend the MSG performance. She was utterly humiliated. And, it was so over-the-top that tongues were wagging and the truth about JFK's infidelities was threatening to come to light. If that had been the case, it could have presented a threat to JFK's reelection in 1964. So I think she was taken out of the way, and it was meant to look like suicide..

Ellroy was on the Santa Monica beach for some of the footage, and he made mention of his proximity to the former Peter Lawford house (or "fuck-pad," as Ellroy put it). No mention was made of Lennon's later residence at the place.

I read somewhere that, once they had arranged to inhabit the onetime Peter Lawford house, John made sure that he & May took the room where JFK slept with Marilyn Monroe.

I don't know. The more Iearn about the Kennedies, the less I like them. E..g., "Profiles in Courage" was actually written by Ted Sorensen. Kennedy would offer internships to young women (including Mimi Alford), only to use them for sex.

How about the screw-up sons of JFK and RFK? JFK Jr. famously crashed his plane and killed his two passengers. He shouldn't have been flying in the first place; he was inexperienced with nighttime flight and not particularly familiar with the craft's controls.

I think Jackie O ruined John Jr's life. He wanted to be an actor; she made him go to law school. He fell in love with Daryl Hannah; she made him break if off. RFK Jr. admits to suffering some sort of neurological disease. Obviously impairment could be the source of some of his bizarre delusions -- including the one that the disease was caused by influenza vaccine!

I think Jackie was threatened by LBJ after the assassination of JFK and told that, in effect, no Kennedy would hold high office again. RFK tried and failed, so would have Ted if it hadn't been for Chapaquiddick...and I think JFK Jr. was slated to try...it is definitely a tragedy.

I don't understand RFK Jr's statements at all. You may be right that he is suffering from something...

How happy do you think JFK was in his marriage?

There's a writer named Jesse Kornbluth who argues that the most important woman in JFK's life was Mary Pinchot Meyer -- an accomplished and artistic free-spirited type who was murdered in 1964.

There was a lot of buzz around Meyer some time back when a letter to her from JFK was auctioned off. I think it sold for around $90,000. In it, he addresses Meyer as "Love," and begs her to meet him "here or on the Cape or in Boston." Supposedly Meyer rebuffed Kennedy's entreaties as often as not..

There was a great (ID Channel?) documentary about Meyer, her relationship with Kennedy, and her controversial death, but I'm unable to find it online at the moment.

> As a lone nut -- one with a violent past who had recently been released from prison. There's a whole chapter devoted to Crump in Nina Burleigh's biography of Mary Meyer. He was well into a bottle of whiskey when he attacked Meyer. The murder most likely began as an attempted rape.
