It does appear to be Hindemith; the recording date is given as 1934 on the Internet Archive EMI CD:

The furthest my collection goes back is Ruth Posselt and Allan Sly in 1938 (On West Hill Radio Archives).

I would like to know what year Ricci and Persinger recorded it for Vox. 1940s, I think.

It was Hindemith, and it's the Sonata for Solo Viola, op. 25/1. Two sonatas for viola and piano were recorded by Primrose and by Hindemith in 1938 and 1939.
