Not really. What matters most in operas is everything... operas are ensemble-pieces. You can make it easy for yourself by opting for a reductionist view.

The different operas have a different character etc etc this must all be taken into consideration. You can ofc only look at the singing...

Since you mention it, what would be your problem with the singers in my picks? Seefried, Stader, Töpper, Simoneau, Röschmann, Rancatore, Beczala, Gardina, Fritzsch, Avemo? Also what would be your favourite picks? All in all I don't think you can do better than my picks ;)

The woman you once recommended... forgot her name... singing Mozart Arias (Queen of the Night aria you recommended)... was horrible... it may be note perfect or whatever... but it just sucked.

Very good point. Thanks. I have to admit that I don't like Streich's Zerlina in Mitropoulos' DG, Fiordiligi and Dorabella in Cambreling's Cosi, as well as most women in Fischer's Zauberflöte.

Maybe rather:

Serail: Beecham
Figaro: Fricsay
DG: Klemperer (EMI), Krips
Cosi: Böhm (1955), Böhm (1962)
Zauberflöte: Böhm (Decca), Klemperer (EMI)

Reevaluation: Furtwängler's 3 DGs (I really like Erna Berger as Zerlina), Klemperer's Cosi and Nozze.

I don't know what I was thinking when saying this about Streich's Zerlina; she's beautiful. But the rest stands; add Despina in Cambreling's Cosi - I don't like her.

But his accompaniment in some places is really good... listening to Erna Berger's Zerlina again... I might prefer it over Streich's...
