I know several here are big jazz fans, so I was interested in asking what percentage of each you listen to?

In my case (classically trained jazz musician) it varies. At times I go heavily classical, like 70% to 30%. At the moment I'm on a bit of a jazz trip so it's more like jazz is 80% to 20%.

How about you?

I have spells where I find I need jazz. I can never really mix the two at one time. After sating my jazz need I then find I need classical. In proportion, overall, I would say it was 70-30 in favour of classical. Jazz is for when I am feeling a bit more cerebral, but at the end of the day, orchestral texture and straight melodic invention win out.

Are the Kapustin piano works and Boling flute suites considered jazz?

I'm probably at around 80% recordings made in the past couple of
years, and mainly new music, where as noted previously, whether
something is going to be called jazz or classical or something else
can be a matter of opinion....

More silence would be nice too. (Least favorite thing to listen
to: landscaping/power tools, followed by television....)

For me Kapustin = yes and Bolling = no.

More accurate to say 85 - 15 in favour of classical. But jazz is still important for the times when I need it.

As much as I like classical music, I also enjoy jazz a lot... but not your traditional jazz. I *really* like Gypsy jazz and Newgrass, Grappelli and Reinhardt, Bela Fleck, Newgrass Revival, Charlie Byrd, Brazilian jazz, like Baden Powell or Yamandu Costa... and the list goes on and on and on... There is a lot of really great non-classical music out there... but if it came down to a desert island single choice of genre... for me, it would be classical...

Half and third. The remaining 6th is for
news and weather.

As mentioned earlier, the engine of my Audi
has been modified to run on jazzolene, a
high efficiency, non-polluting, renewable
clean energy fuel I patented. It is made by
mixing one part Evans, one part Garner,
one part Peterson, and 2 parts Talisker!
For higher octane levels I pour in some
Tatum.

The turbochargers have been upgraded
with trumpet bells. The exhaust pipes
have been replaced by 12 ft organ pipes.

The sound system has been modified to
automatically filter out violas and Wagner.

This car flies! ;-)

Cheers!

Can't you just take the same anti-jazz pills you give your patients? ;-)

Cheers
