Well said. The only man who trained under Karajan _and_ Bernstein. A long and fruitful career. His recordings were hit and miss, and like you said, within his strike zone (Berlioz Requiem on RCA Red Sealcomes to mind) he hit it out of the park. Ozawa will be missed. P.S. As an aside, I went to Walt Disney Concert Hall last night take in Adès conduct Adès & Ravel with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A scorcher of a concert! Ozawa would have loved it.
