I couldn't help but notice a particularly vicious video review by one Hurwitz, accusing Giovanni Antonin of using Haydn for his personal vanity.

Pretty rich coming from a guy who spends his days in front of the youtube camera.

How could Herman say anything positive
about anyone who isn't a fiddler or an
European composer, conductor, orchestra

Let's see... Hurwitz speculates about Antonini's hidden agenda of conductorial vanity, and it somehow hurts your sense of justice that I don't applaud Hurwitz.

I don't watch that many of his videos, I remember having seen a good one about Bruckner 6 or 8, but, sorry, generally I think he's a horrible hack. But you can feel completely different.

Here is an excellent live symphony 81 in G. The first movement is done at a pace the large orchestras of yore probably would have been able to handle without getting messy. The start of the minuet indeed is not entirely clean.

as to Antonini. the nr 1 rule for me is don't look at the conductor. He's not making the music. Virtually all conductors are annoying to see.

What's wrong with speculating? There would be no advance in knowledge without it. If you only say negative things about Hurwitz when there are apparently positive things to say, is inherently unjust.

So you remember a good one (did you credit him at the time?), but don't watch many of his videos, yet are qualified to call him a hack. I See.

Let me speculate that you are biased against his videos because.....of his attitude and personality.

My goodness, this is tedious.

I haven't watched many of his videos because it doesn't take many to see the man's a hack. There are rare occasions he he has something to say, but most of the time (his videos are waaayy too long for the info he is offering, if any) he's just clowning for the camera. You call that 'personality. I call that despicable.

It was a sad case of projection that he was blasting in his usual clown fashion a conductor and recorder / flute soloist of real stature for his alledged vanity.

There are people who have nothing to do with their time. These are the people those youtube videos (of all different kinds) are made. Many people on RMCR are long retired and bored. I've got stuff to do, sorry.
