People who have begin to find Legacy Gears at retail are shocked to discover that he already comes with a piece "missing" right out of the factory-fresh packaging. His opening chest cover comes pre-stolen.

Well, not really. It's enclosed as a separate accessory, wrapped in tissue paper and secured to the inside cardboard tray. This is clearly a measure to prevent prospective retail consumers from removing the piece themselves and walking off with it, as was often the case with the chest piece for Buzzworthy Jazz and countless other toys whose heads pulled a LeBron James and mysteriously vanished.

This would seem to be a stopgap measure ahead of the eventual return of window boxes, as reported last year, which are still expected to make their long-awaited return around August of 2024 or thereabouts. The new plastic windows are going to be made of either recycled plastic or plastic made from renewable organic sources, so Hasbro is still committed to reducing their carbon footprint by minimizing the use of what they called "virgin plastics."

But, it's definitely a good move, considering how many toys sold in open-window packaging have had parts stolen at retail (heads, mostly!) and also how many toys in closed box packaging have been the victims of figure-swapping. It was a fine experiment, but it's definitely time for that experiment to end.
