Seriously, that's how Elon approaches it. Unlike NASA, or public companies, he
can develop iteratively, accepting that you learn a lot about how to make things
work by learning how they fail. "Failure is an option." If you have Congress or
stockholders to please, you can't do that.

We may very well see another launch before the end of the year.

I seem to remember that American post-WWII rocketry and the early
space program progressed the same way. I recall seeing a showreel
of exploding rockets, much like SpaceX's.

It's kind of intriguing how such machinery proceeds from "all systems
nominal" to "catastrophic disassembly" in very little time.

Highly complex, interrelated and interdependent, when a single component
fails it causes a cascade of failures.

In a way, the opposite of commercial aircraft. I watch Mayday and
there's a recurring theme that with one main exception [1], serious
mishaps usually involve several things going wrong at once.

1: The exception being suicidal flight crew. Even there, the rest
of the crew has to be somewhere where they cannot intervene.

There is enough air traffic that multiple redundancies can be mandated
and enough regularized production to make them viable. We're still in
the period of space travel being all experimental, even SpaceX.
