Pity really he always sounded so young. This type of posse radio though does
sometimes still appear, and I have to say I do tend to miss it when I'm in
the mood. What did he die of? Was it a Heart attack? I stopped listening,
not because of him, but because the bbc music policy seemed to think there
was nothing before 1990 on Radio 2.

The police have just said that his death was "unexpected but not suspicious"
so heart attack is a possibility.

Well, I don't see the point in that comment. Many stations simply play out
pre recorded DJs ie Voice tracked radio that was probably recorded a week
ago in a spare half hour.

Why does his actual cause of death matter to anyone except his family?

The police have said there were no suspicious circumstances, just that
the he was declared dead by the paramedics who attended.

Even for a gig like that you need to idenify as some sort of "persecuted" minority, and that includes women, depite the fact that they are not a minority. If you can tick multiple boxes, your prospects seem to increase exponentially.

We now live in era in which the only people that it's legitimate to discriminate aginst is heterosexual white men without mental illness - despite the reality that that's the demographic that is resonsible for constructing most of the society that we know. The West is signing its own death warrant by pandering to minorities.

According to today's Times, he had a major heart op about 15 months ago.
It's suggested he never really recovered.

offer them what comfort they need. Send a card, send money to his
favourite charity in his memory, leave them alone, or whatever they ask.

All that we need to be interested in is that the police are not looking
to have a chat with anyone about his death.

If your regular school bus driver doesn't appear one day, you don't ask
questions about how they died, do you?

It's traditional here to know how someone died, after all it may something
that can be avoided. Perhaps in your country its not so common.

If the family want some privacy, that's their right. If one of your
family members died in their sleep, would you want the precise reason

If it was all above board, yes, absolutely no problem with that. I would
be reticent if self abuse was implicated.

Death Certificates are normally public, though there will be a delay
before they can be seen but it is not long.

Personally, I think he was ushered out of his afternoon slot with undue
haste to be replaced by a bland and non controversial host. The only show he
then did was pre recorded. Maybe they needed to veyt what he said, though
any fool would know most of it was good natured banter and nothing more.

I don't like the insinuation that just because the question was asked, that
is all we care about, of course its not.
Hearts are fickle things, my father died from an attack at age of 54, and I
rather assumed that was his problem until somebody suggested otherwise to
me.

Did his replacememt coincide with the timing of his heart operation? It
was drastic enough for him to want to step down at least for a while.

As I don't listen to Radio 2, I pay no attention to what the presenters
there do.

I was told many years ago that all his programmes were pre-recorded that
is why there are stories of him spending many hours in the studio before
his programme. Nothing to do with the BBC needing to check what he said.

Are you saying the programme was pre-recorded in its entirety or that
sections were pre-recorded? I thought there was interaction between
Steve and the traffic presenter, which suggests he was live and
present in the studio. Sections of many programmes are pre-recorded
(including I believe R4 Today) when they say I interviewed person X
earlier.

Apparently he had a big heart operation a while ago, and it did not fix the
problem, according to the Internet, so it must be right!
