A 29% swing from scum to Lib-Dems in Somerton and Froome, overturning a 19,213 tory majority.

A 23.7% swing from scum to Labour in Selby and Ainsty, overturning a 20,137 seat majority in one of the safest tory seats is the largest ever gain in any by-election.

The 6.7% swing from scum to Labour was not enough to take Uxbridge and South Ruislip, but the result was close, cutting a scum majority of 7,210 to just 495.

Hopes were high but it was always going to be a hard race for a seat Labour have never held. It does however highlight Starmer's weakness, Labour's lack of appeal, the unpopularity of Mayoral policy, even if that was put in place by tory scum themselves.

I can only agree with tory scum and others that Starmer is Labour's biggest problem; an autocrat who could probably run the country well, but so dull and wishy-washy that he has less than zero appeal. I'm not entirely sure he's alive, let alone committed to anything.

In deciding to become a tory-lite party, trying to not alienate those on the right, Starmer has sold Labour down the river, has lost Labour's traditional base.

That we don't have a democracy, never have had a democracy, makes it hard to tell how the next general election will go. Voters vote against the party they don't want. Starmer is making it hard for voters to determine which that is.

The best hope is that Rees-Mogg, Patel and the ERG can pull Sunak further right, will put his party's fascism centre stage.

Isn't that like saying you want Sunak to be made into a fascist so he can
be punished for being a fascist?

I'm not sure I want any of them. Sunak's Conservatives have been quite
mild but you get a critical mass of the real extremists and you have a
nightmare for whoever is their chosen victim. I haven't liked Labour for
a long time and especially not after they opposed Brexit even after the
Brexit vote. I especially liked their "People's Vote" proposal where
there was going to be a choice of essentially "rejoining" or "not
leaving". Of course you could also choose to not vote on principle, but
principled votes wouldn't be counted. I also haven't forgotten what liars
the Liberals were, abandoning the people that had voted for them and any
promises made for a brief moment of power.

Everyone should vote for me. I stand for us all becoming pirates.

Exactly that.

Though I would say it would simply be revealing the wolf hiding under sheep's clothing than turning him into a fascist.

I'm not entirely surprised you see Sunak's mob as some sort of moderates.

Not as evil as they could be, would be if they thought they would get away with it, has never been a glowing assessment in my book.

The referendum was purely advisory.

That was a Lib-Dem thing.

Pure fantasy.

Lib-Dem voters haven't forgotten either. They punished them savagely for Clegg and Cable's betrayal.

But that was 13 years ago.

Whether they have learned their lesson doesn't really matter. Huge swathes of voters have decided they are a better option than Conservative or Labour.

I guess you can't get more tribalist than that :-)
