Big question is still, why exactly did the zealots provoke the jews into
this, and who exactly was behind it ?
To point out the obvious, my guess is Iran & Saudis, with varying
degrees of complicity.
Iran wanted at all costs to prevent any Saudi/Jew rapprochement, and the
Saudis were happy to see things go past the boiling point to put them in
a better position to blackmail US taxpayers.

Why would the "palestinians" let themselves be used as lowly pawns in a
bloody adventure that was certain, before it even started, to result in
the deaths of 1,000's of their own and the invasion, destruction and
occupation of their territory ?

Answer could be simpler than we think - Asking them if they'd like to
invade Israel and kill and kidnap jews is like asking a nigger if they'd
like to loot a shoe and cell phone store.
Perhaps, [as some people have said] they were convinced and told that
this murderous action would not only satisfy their vanity and lust for
blood, but would result in a much wider conflict that would unite the
zealots and result in the destruction of the hated jew state, with all
the jews marched out into the sea.

Obviously, the potential for wider conflict does exist, but its tough to
see any scenarios that would result in any lasting zealot success. They
will be reduced, in fact have started already, to begging the
"international community" to stop what they have started, and pillorying
the USA/EU for supporting the jews.
And to point out the obvious [again], this puts us at extreme risk for
terrorists actions against out own countries, since we have allowed
hoards of these zealots to roost in our lands.

BTW something like this must have been planned for a long time.

My guess - as you wrote below; they did it now because of the
initial steps towards normalization between Israel and the Saudis.
