I wouldn't have thought 1,500 miles counted as long-range these days
though.

Actually, they are quite cheaper:

These are not ICBMs, but relatively small missiles, usually fired from bombers
such as the B-52 and B-21 (also the warhead is quite smaller than the
ICBM ones). Being much smaller than a bomber, they are more difficult to detect,
and further, they allow the bomber to operate from a safe distance.

So, no chance for the repeat of this unforgettable scene... :)

These are standoff cruise missiles with a relatively high yield for such
a small weapon, so are probably more of the order of $10m each.

Since they are launched from bombers with global reach, their range is
also nearly global.

Article does say "the ultimate cost of the program is estimated at $16.2
billion." So there are some puzzle pieces missing here, guess the $1B is
just to grease the works.
