But others have said that it was a Land Rover, a make which has been implicated in other fires. I don't know about other people but when searching for a place to park in a car park I now avoid any spaces that are adjacent to a Land Rover of any type. I suppose, though, that if the car park is so badly designed that any vehicle far will cause a conflagration and mass destruction, then it may be a useless precaution.

I think the main problem I have with the way this announcement
is made, is when a fire service completes an investigation,
the report is released synchronous with any summary articles.
You don't put up a web page, until "all your ducks are in order".

It's considered bad etiquette to be doing a strip tease,
when you're a government body. The fire services here are
very conservative and take their sweet time about investigations
of this sort. And they would NOT release the information this way.

the public good is not served by this summary. Nobody
is satisfied with the nature of this summary, one way
or another. Are we learning any lessons here, government peeps ???

within about 48hrs and I trust them over and above anyone else any day

When the report becomes available (assuming it's release to be
public), check out the timeline, and see exactly how long
it took for Bed Fire to show up to fight the fire. The
original reports made the response seem particularly poor.
It will be interesting to see how the report covers various asses.

If it's an honest assessment, the timeline should be included,
including exactly when the driver stepped out of the
car and attempted to "put out his bonfire". And then "ran away".

Given the expense of the destroyed building, this should not
be a "12 sentence report". There are lessons learned here,
and there should be recommendations.

Even though the police aren't laying charges, there's
still an opportunity for a civil action. A fire report must
be thorough, as it could be "given in evidence".

Ive been to public events that were completely misreported by the press
for various reasons.
Simply dozens of electric vehicles have spontaneously combusted into
fires that could not be put out.
TPTB are in a total panic that the public simply will not buy heat
pumps, electric vehicles. or sit there and be showered with shattered
windmill blades etc etc.
