From Which River to Which Sea?
College students don’t know, yet they agree with the slogan.

But only 47% of the students who embrace the slogan were able to name the river and the sea. Some of the alternative
answers were the Nile and the Euphrates, the Caribbean, the Dead Sea (which is a lake) and the Atlantic. Less than a
quarter of these students knew who Yasser Arafat was (12 of them, or more than 10%, thought he was the first prime
minister of Israel). Asked in what decade Israelis and Palestinians had signed the Oslo Accords, more than a quarter
of the chant's supporters claimed that no such peace agreements had ever been signed. There's no shame in being
ignorant, unless one is screaming for the extermination of millions.

So 53% are stupid, poorly educated American students. No surprise there.

Given America's education system is so fucking awful, the real stand-out is that the percentage who can name both the river and the sea is so high.

These must be America's most well informed given reports that 20%, a full fifth of Americans, cannot even identify where the USA is on a map.

The interesting question is how many of those criticising the use of the phrase know which river and sea it is, how many Americans could identify where Israel is on a map.

True, I suspect most people would be completely fucked if handed a map drawn in the 1900's. Most would have to conclude "Israel doesn't exist". And they would be right.
