Is there some UMRA award for the most tasteful, elegant, turn of phrase?

A subsection of BUMRA?

a desk nearby. She, being young, asked me who that was, I had difficulty
answering that question briefly.

I'm pretty sure it's an old meaning of the word - not "impolite", more a
feeling of crude, unsophisticated, robust. That last in particular -
someone in "rude health" would be resistant to infection.

(Just gut feeling/vague memory; haven't asked bro.)

D#1 drove down from Sheffield to 'work from my home' for a few days and did
bring me chocolate - she also declared my home toxic and did some cleaning
while she was here.

Well, in my case, before health returned, I had a blood sugar crash* and
shouted at three junior doctors, one of whom was behaving very badly and he
shouted back at me. Maybe he was hangry too... A nurse figured out what was
going on and brought me some Gluco-jell.

Perhaps also a relation to ‘ruddy’ as in red or red blood rather than pale
or poor blood?

Nugger!

That doesn't sound like the sort of hospital visit that was planned in advance. I'm very pleased to hear that you are back home again and hopefully continuing to improve.

Liliana and I both send you our love,

Nick

In a way it was meticulously planned, by me at least.
I have resisted all thought of being sent off to hospital in an ambulance
since I've been living alone. I realised a large part of the fear was a
loss of control over the whole thing - plus the chance of becoming a
bed-blocker with no one to care for me once discharged.

More than once a GP has said 'you should be in hospital' and I've managed
to persuade them that another round of antibiotics will see me right. This
time it really wasn't helping, so I packed a bag with all the things I
thought I might need, alerted my neighbour (recently retired district
nurse), with reminder of where I keep my spare key, and called an
ambulance.

I did feel a little guilty about pulling an ambulance out of service for
several hours (we had to queue to get unloaded) but it went pretty
smoothly. The locum GP had said I needed to get my oxygen levels up. The
hospital docs did all manner of tests which found nothing else wrong. My
oxygen levels were righted, I came home - feeling better than I have for a
while but in need of some exercise to improve my strength and fitness. I've
started with short bursts of gardening.

Thank you.

From me also.

I too have 'short bursts of gardening'.
There is a grove(?) of bamboo behind the pond, which more or less kept
itself to itself for many years[1] but then started expanding alarmingly.
Hacking it back is hard work, so I attack it in short sharp spells.

[1] It was there when we moved in (1980).
