It would explain why the IDF murdered innocent Israelis, their own kind, but not everyone will agree that it's justified or legitimate.

There is a cold callous logic to it; it saves Israel from having to negotiate hostage releases or risking operations to free them, saves them from the embarrassment of having to admit they don't care if hostages are dead or alive, and, above all, avoids public protests that Israel and her government should be doing more to free hostages.
