General Sir Richard Barrons has told the BBC there is "a serious risk" of Ukraine losing the war this year.

Its forces are running critically low on ammunition, troops and air defences. Its much-heralded counter-offensive last year failed to dislodge the Russians from ground they had seized and now Moscow is gearing up for a summer offensive.

The Commander of US Forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, has warned that unless the US rushes significantly more weapons and ammunition to Ukraine then its forces will be outgunned on the battlefield by ten to one.

The main problem Ukraine faces is lack of weapons and munitions as Republicans block the supply of those.

But even if they had them Ukrainians are reluctant to join the fight, to die for their country. Most prefer their comfortable lives in Kiev and elsewhere far from the front lines.

Many can't see the point of dying to secure land in the east which only Ukrainian nationalists and fascists want to hold on to. They know that the east was always a part of Russia no matter where the borders lie.

And it will be again when Trump wins the presidency and imposes his surrender deal, hands annexed land to Putin.

It's been a war for nothing, has only lost Ukraine more land than if Zelensky had handed the east to Russia as he proposed. And there would never have been a war if Ukrainian fascists hadn't provoked it, tried to ethnically cleanse the east, had allowed the right of self-determination.

Perhaps the only good thing to come out of it is that many Ukrainian fascists who wanted a war have died in it.
