I finished A Blink of the Screen and am now reading Humbridge.

I have had it a while, like the Blink, but it must be ages since I
read it. I hate the editor already. The author was Agricultural Story
Editor for TA and the editor sounds like VW. She rules the writers,
visits friends and draws her inspiration for the series from a
'village' near Sidcup, and allows no other countryside input.

It was indeed VW who was the inspiration - but I believe that there was
a falling out between Anthony Parkin and the editor.
