Very good spoof on the subject of Human Derived Meat - Reminded me of
‘Brave New World’. I think it was BBC2 but can’t check this now.

I can't stand Greg Wallace - an emotion that goes right back to the Veg Talk days. But I think he was the ideal presenter for this programme. It's notoriety has spread as far as Argentina - an article about the programme was published in La Nacion this weekend.

Jonathan Swift would have been delighted!

I thought the name sounded familiar, and I've remembered: "inside the
factory". Though that seems to be Gregg with two gs (like the bakers!).
I wouldn't go as far as saying I can't stand him; he gurns (or acting
equivalent) excessively, and I'd _rather_ have someone who does so less,
but his enthusiasm is often I think genuine, which I like. I like
_genuine_ enthusiasm.

‘G’ or “Gg’, it’s the same horse anyway.

Neither can I, but as I was saying to someone very recently I always
feel very guilty when saying "I don't like ..." about some TV presenter
(it was Lucy Worsley in this case) or actor when I don't KNOW them at
all and perhaps they are actually really nice people. But it's so much
easier to say "I don't like ..." or even "I can't stand/abide/do with
...." than "I really don't at all enjoy watching that person."

I know a lot of people have an opinion on Gordon Ramsay, no doubt
derived from his television persona. Having met him in person and eaten
in his restaurant at his invitation along with our daughter Stephanie I
would very much like to make it clear that we are very grateful to him
and to his team and that he visited twice during the evening, ignoring
all of the other diners and we were made to feel very special - he was
charming and was able to make us laugh so I happen to believe that
underneath that persona there is a true gentleman.

I like Lucy II (I liked Lucy I as well). Or at least her TV persona. Not
keen on her "Puzzling" quiz prog. though.

The converse also applies. I love the character of "Ducky" (Dr. Mallard
the pathologist) in NCIS, as played by David McCallum - which _seems_ to
fit him like a glove. But of course that could mean he's just a very
good actor. So it applies to any fictional character I like: I don't
know the actor at all, and saying I do is actually in some ways
belittling their acting talent.

How much this applies to non-fictional characters is another question:
is the person putting on a cloak? Applies to radio as well as TV of
course.

Just from hearsay, I _think_ I've heard fewer "s/he was unpleasant in
real life" (I've heard this about Peter Sellers) than "s/he's lovely"
(Judi Dench of course. Julie Andrews.)

Good to hear. I didn't really have an opinion on him, as cooking (and
things that arise from it) is/are one of my non-interests.

You are right, Jenny. It's the persona that turns me off and who am I to know if that persona is something Greg Wallace turns on and off.

After all, Lorraine Kelly persuaded the Inland Revenue that the Lorraine Kelly we saw on GMB[1] was not the real Lorraine Kelly but a character called Lorraine Kelly that she had created and which she performed on the show.

I take your point. I really dislike "The Pub Landlord" but find
Al Murray quite engaging.

The:

Crowd.
