I was supremely impressed by the solo cyclist we [1] met at a campsite
in Turkey, not far from Istanbul. He'd cycled from Glasgow -
destination Istanbul.

I was thinking of that too. Jealous of the freedom and get up and go also.

Strange campsite, close to the border with Bulgaria it had promotional
pictures for some drink (martini or similar, some aperitif) with excitable
young people standing around drinking and looking happy. Great big
posters. With the glasses just blocked out.

Campsite ran by a German who sold us beer, so I guess the censoring
of signs was done to keep others happy?

After this trip, the reverse seems true for me.

I can't see myself doing long distance bike trips in the future[1]. I
had zero jeleousy of bikers I saw all geared up in the heat (or the rain).

Getting up in the morning, riding all day in T-shirt, shorts and sandals.

The only real downside for me was the camping. Luckily I have Jean for
sorting out tent stuff.

Oh, back home BTW :-)

[1] Not giving up on bikes, but doubt the tent and panniers will be used
in the coming years.
