Eeeek my eyes!! That is horrible. Please tell me that's a strangle

Come to think of it, it looks like an awful experiment in cross breeding
a CX500 with a Katana.

The "inspired by the F-35B fighter jet" sort of gave the true colour
away. That and the front disk was also pink.

Can't see it - covered-up by a cuckoo^h^h^h^cookie 'use them-or-you
don't-see-a-lot' screen. Immediate turn-off AFAIC.

Yep, I reckon either a sunset or a bright red or pink object out of
shot. The one in the background is much greyer.

The better quality pictures make it's ugliness more apparent.

Hrumph another stupid highly stepped pillion and one too that has been
truncated. Do these idiot designers never take a long journey 2-up?

The concept has merit though: pillion looks over the head of rider so
doesn't keep moving about to look round him/her.

I originally disliked the odd truncated look of the cylinders, but I'm
warming to it. The rest I quite like. No so keen on a wet clutch
engine, but I guess it saves weight and would be quieter.

I think the retractable wings are a gimmick that could be lost and
save a bit of weight.

They're still a bit portly at 230Kg. I guess that things like ECU
codes and anything other than essential maintenance (oil and tyre
changes) will be hidden under a shroud of secrecy, which for me is a
major turn-off for any modern bike.

>Hrumph another stupid highly stepped pillion and one too that has been

I never take long journeys two-up. To be fair, I've only done a couple
of long journeys solo (well, within England, so that may not count as
long in some eyes) in the last twenty years.

Personally, I think it looks fine. No worse than my 1200. The down
side on my bike is the cramped non-adjustable leg position.

As RH says, it might help a pillion look over the rider a bit, or at
least over a shoulder more easily.

Also allows the rider to be lower, for the short of stature, without
sacrificing rear suspension travel.

the low volume of sales of the MG range, fewer dealers etc is a barrier to
me buying one. I test rode the V85TT when it came out but that dealer is no
longer selling MG.

I am happy to carry on riding a soon to be 7 year old BMW R1200RS as there
is a massive after market infrastructure due to the huge number of tossers
buying the GS variant. Plenty of independent service specialists and you
can get the ZF Sachs "dynamic" suspension units refurbished. There are a
couple of options for diagnostic tools to interrogate the electronics.

Nice though the MG looks it's advanced electronics from a small company with no experience of such, with few dealers and, I expect, poor spares availability.
If one puts asthetics and the cute idea of owning a MG aside, the BMW R1200RS is a superior motorcycle by every metric.

Nice development that engineers are refurbishing the BMW electronic suspension units. My SD-GT and SA-S both had electronic suspension unit failures and there is no service or repair option. Replacement costs are Ouchy, a pending horror for post warranty owners. There is no easy option to fit conventional units because CanBus, disabling MTC and ABS.
Buyers of the SD-R Evo are barmy. We can only chuckle at what the future holds for new Super Adventures with active suspension and radar cruise.

MG are owned by Piagio so hardly a "small company". All the
manufacturers buy in electronics from companies like Bosch anyway so in
terms of their electronics experience levels they're not really any
different to any other.

Dealer scarcity, I agree, is an issue.

The BMWs /are/ better - but also more expensive. You pays your money ...
etc. I'd be very happy with an R1250RT as a replacement for the FJR but
it's just so big across the front - not exactly built for filtering.

And while the RS is slimmer without panniers, with panniers it's as wide
as the RT because they don't seem to fit as flushly[1] as far as I can
tell from photos.

TBH I wish BMW had kept the flat 4 K series instead of introducing the
6-cylinder version. On the other hand, the depreciation of the K1600 is
astonishing - there are some amazingly cheap low-mileage examples out
there if you can manage the enormous size and weight. :-)

It's telling that there are very few K1600 models with the reverse gear
for sale. I know they're more recent but I just get the feeling the
aficionados traded in for the rev gear model and will be holding on for
a while.

Sir needs an ex-police RT-P, with the narrower panniers.

it's more about the after market infrastructure that will repair the
bikes once Piaggio stop making spares due to the low volume demand. With
the BMW R/K series, the sales volume means BMW support the models for
longer and there are decades of development in the independent sector as
it is financially worthwhile.

the all singing and dancing V100TT with the electronic suspension is
much the same price as the R1250RS with a similar spec.

the OE standard panniers are rubbish on the RS, and expensive. I have
fitted Givi E21 slim panniers to my R1200RS. No wider than the front of
the bike so filtering is easy and top loaders.

This, with knobs on for modern Moto Morinis, even the 650s. Then If I
wanted a tarted up Chinese ER6 I would have bought one.

I'm surprised Piaggio persevere with Guzzi. They never did develop a
modern Guzzi badged 600 single with the Nordwest Bialbero tooling (I can
guess why).

Aprilia need something between the 125 and 660 Tuareg. Stick a Gilera
badge on it, keep the weight down to 160Kgs and the seat height to
something sensible and I might be interested.

They are a subsidiary and you can't buy a complete canbus and active suspension system off the shelf. If KTM couldn't get it right first try, well...

The 1600 is a hugely overweight dog. I recall Tog getting rid of one asap. Few people buy such things new and so even fewer used, so plummeting residuals.
The Gold Wing club is a notable exception.

Been chatting to Burnt in the other place about K bikes. Shame BMW let the concept drop, it could have been timeless.
Perhaps they didn't want to sell bikes that last a lifetime?
The 8V engine was outstanding for low pressure turbocharging at ~150bhp, as proved by RBR Racing. With a Hossack front end and rising rate rear it could have been a wonderful thing, approriate to develop for recent emissions standards. Unlike the awful K1300R/S/GT, another albatross for owners.

Anyway, I'm off back into the morphine bubble.

I don't think that's true. I've owned three generations of Guzzis, all
fuel injected, and the only electronic issue I ever had was a dry
joint on a capacitor in the Quota's tachometer.

*Electrical* items are a different matter. I've got through at least
two Ducati alternators, mostly through corrosion, and at least three
Ducati reg-recs.

While I salute your pedantry, perhaps you can explain to us poor
ignorami exactly how a regulator-rectifier is not an electronic
component?

Well, all right, modern ones are electronic (I can remember dynamos
and weird relays), but they're part of the electrical system: with a
charged battery, even with a fucked reg-rec, the electronics as in
ECU, CAN etc. will still work for a while.

Look at photo 3 from the original

a pink building right next door.

I did initially wonder if the F-35B was painted pink in some effort to
detoxify masculinity or somesuch. How mundane the truth is.
