Much, ignoring the fact that it doesn't include 'van' in any form. Then
this is UKRM after all.

Ah! Another old folkie on UKRM!
TBF, I later turned into a rocker, then a bluesman, now a

Not heard that... bit of a dirge, buit not surprising, given the
subject matter, I suppose.

When we did a memorial bash for my wife's dad and MiL last year we
played Barry Gibb's version of Ellan Vannin, given they both had
strong connections with the IoM. (Not related to the ship, but as he's
phrased it the unofficial IoM National Anthem.

>Would you believe I used to sing it in folk sessions, accompanying

Well it's not exactly a tricky tune. I recall many traditional folk
songs from back in my Peasmouldia (Derby folk club) days with very
similar construction. Actually reminds me a bit of Over the Hills and
Far Away, famously used for the TV series Sharpe.

Hmmph... I went to Peasmouldia a few times in my yewf. Barbara Green is

A bit far from my usual stomping ground around Nottingham.

I don't recognise the name. The only ones I recall were Dave and Beed
who also formed part of R Cajun, the de facto house band. This was
when they met in the back room at the Station Inn. Around 1980-82, I'd
guess.

I misremember why, but that venue came to an end and the club went
downhill, meeting in a much larger - far too large - room with a stage
above a different pub, which would have been good for larger concerts
but felt wrong when there were just twenty or thirty people.

I think the organisers also changed at the same time, so I don't think
it was just the change in veue that spoilt it, nor have I any idea if
the club resurfaced or survived much beyond that time.

The Swamp Club?

I remember going all the way over there to see them in the mid 80's.

I saw them quite a few times in their earleir days, as they were either on
the bill with my brother's Zydeco band, Joe le Taxi, or my brother was the
promoter and had booked them.

http://www.melodeons.com/music - brother's website

The drummer from JLT is now playing with Chris Hall and other fromer R
Cajun members in https://www.accessallareas.info/artist/cajun-roosters/

Sadly my brother is not well enough to tour but he is still happily making
and repairing melodeons in his workshop in Welshpool. My new house will be
about half a mile up the hill from him. He made a better income as the UK
importer of Castagnari melodeons and now making his own than he ever did
as a musician.

Oh gosh, so many memories! I remember RCATZB - mostly with ZZ
Birmingham (who still is out there playing) - but also I knew Clive &co
from Roaring Jelly...

I'll stop now!

Bum, I was going to see them the other week at the Nottingham Riverside
Festival but things did not work out. (It rained a lot) So I was
outvoted and we went to the pub instead.
