I've got a new laptop which comes autoconfigured with my account details so
the user is ahead set up. What I'd like to do is use MA to transfer files,
apps and settings from my old Mac using TM. It's the same user on both
machines.

All goes well until one step where the option to update my current user is
greyed out. The only option is to duplicate. Is this an MDM restriction or
do I need do this another way?

I've also looked at doing this manually from the TM disk directly, but all
the important folders (Desktop, Documents, Applications, etc) have a no
entry sign and won't let me copy files across.

TL;DL how do I use MA to set up my user environment on my new mac from my
old mac from a TM backup without doing a full restore?

BTW can't use icloud. Vast majority of files are already synced via
OneDrive so it's mostly app and config data plus random, but important
local files.

AFAIK the MA can only migrate a full account, not merge accounts.
I think your best option is the let it migrate your data into a new account
and then move over all the stuff you need by hand.

Hmm, that should also work. If you have admin rights, maybe just set the
whole TM-drive as free for all. (Use at your own risk)
