Why would they not?

They found pamphleteering, newspapers, billboards, radio, TV, Usenet,
every damned website in existence including the search engines and the
unskippable first fifty minutes on DVD's and Blu-Rays, there should be
no expectation that they can't, with a tiny bit of effort and expense,
build, man and run their own news-servers.

They have not bothered to do this until now because the public free
ones were cheaper and easier but if the profit is there it may be
worth their costs to run their own NNTP servers.

And, with a bit of ingenuity, they might even get major sponsors to
advertise on their servers.

A nice, clear and helpful page.

Though it doesn't mention that Google slurped up DejaNews and all of
its history of posts when they started serving up Usenet. Nor that
someday they will inevitably kill access to that store of posts.

Maybe they'll sell it to an archive?

Why is Google Groups support for Usenet ending?

Over the last several years, legitimate activity in text-based Usenet
groups has declined significantly because users have moved to more
modern technologies and formats such as social media and web-based
forums. Much of the content being disseminated via Usenet today is
binary (non-text) file sharing, which Google Groups does not support, as
well as spam.

I'm not too happy. What if with knock on effects a lot of NNTP-server
will be shut down? This risk is now very real. Is this the final phase
of the Usenet?

There is no lack of paid-for newsservers.
They can afford some 7 euro/dollar/gbp per month.

In fact there is already much abuse coming from those.
