Doing a document last night in pages, I had to insert a table with some
figures.
One column was numbered 0100, 0101,0102 etc. When put in, it kept
reverting to 100,101,102..., so to get it finished I had to use the
letter O, so, O100,O102..
How can I get it to stay with the leading 0?
Thanks
Alan.

Try placing a single quote character in front of them, eg ‘0100
The ‘ should not be visible when viewing the document.

It may depend on whether you want to do arithmetic with the contents of
that cell. If you prepend a single quote I think the following
characters are treated as a string of text, and any arithmetic will give
strange results.

Yes I realised that after posting my reply. I’m still trying to think of a
workaround - do you have one?

Easy enough to do in Excel though using custom format!

Re: my earlier replies, I think I've worked out how to do what you want in
Pages and Numbers. it involves a screen shot so if it's OK I'll email it to
you.

Build the table in Numbers, Excel, or other spreadsheet. Set custom number
format there. Import into Pages. The custom format should be retained.

This is what I did in Pages ....

Select a relevant cell in the table
In the Formatting pane on the right hand side, select Cell
Select Create Custom Format from Data Format dropdown list
Optionally give it a name
Set type to Number (probably the default anyway)
Under Custom Format:
Tick Show Separator to remove , separator
Tick Show Zeros for Unused Digits
Ignore Add and Removed Digit options
Select Number of Digits to 4
Click OK to save
Apply custom form at to required cells

Same in Pages/Numbers - create a custom number format with "Show zeros
for unused digits" set.
