Safari under Catalina doesn't handle WebM at all, so I guess I'll be moving
on. And if I need to go to Big Sur and suffer UI uglification, then I may as
well go the whole hog and move to Sonoma. I've already verified that Safari
under Monterey can handle it.

Anyone have a firm notion of when Safari (i.e., which version) was able to
handle WebM? And the codec used for sample videos I have seems to be
Google-On2 / VP8, but vorbis/VP8 has been mentioned. Is this a different
codec? If so can Safari handle it? If not, should it? Will it?

WebM has been fully supported since Safari 16.0, according to
caniuse.com, which is usually pretty accurate.
