I'm having trouble reaching some sites, but not others. Anything up? Perhaps
with DNS?

Is this repeatable after rebooting your computer?

Who is your ISP?

Which DNS server(s) are configured in your router to be handed out to
your clients?

Do your clients have their own statically set DNS servers?

I rebooted the router, not my computer. And it was very slow and sluggish to
complete its restart. Rebooting it didn't really help. Plenty of sites were OK
- Wikipedia, BBC News - but although I could log onto my Bank, various pages
there didn't work, and SWMBO couldn't log on to it at all. Then there was Xojo
- where the main site worked but not the Forum or the docs. The symptom tended
to be Can't find host.

> Who is your ISP?

PlusNet.

cdns01.plus.net and cdns02.plus.net. But my Mini (Catalina) and file server
(Monterey) both just point at the router for DNS srvice.

> Do your clients have their own statically set DNS servers?

Unlikely.

After some amount of time (maybe about an hour), everything returned to normal
and all sites work OK now.

PlusNet had major problems yesterday (15/01/2023) between about 16:00 and
20:00; I believe it's sorted now

I see that others have mentioned PlusNet having issue with their DNS
servers.

I've been with PN for a few years, and have found their DNS servers are
a common point of failure.

I have my Router setup with CloudFlare as my DNS servers.

Primary: 1.1.1.2
Secondary: 1.0.0.2

I use the x.x.x.2 suffix for the malware protection it offers. You can
also use a '0' suffix for a plain DNS feed, or a '3' for malware and a
family friendly service.

As I understand it, they are the people that supply Apple with their
Private Relay service (have read that somewhere, but it's off the
internet, so could be wrong ;-)).

There are some others too, mostly pop up in various online and
publication reviews. OpenDNS (part of Cisco), Force9 all seem popular,
and of course Google (never sure about the privacy there though).

I’ve used those too, although currently I seem to be using the default
setup by my ISP. Probably defaulted when I last rebuilt my Macs.

I put the settings into the router, so everything uses them regardless.
