Anyone have a good suggestion for cataloging my collection of DVDs, Blurays
and, yes, a few tapes? Either iOS or macOS.

I've finally got fed up with films constantly disappearing from streaming
that I'm going back to physical media for the good stuff. It'll be good to
have my current collection catalogue and as I go along so I don't
accidentally buy duplicates when in charity shops and the like.

Am trialing "iCollect Movies" for my phone, but are there other options?

Ideal features are inputting via scanning or searching, little/no manual
input, cheap, good search functionality.

Try Tap Forms, it is a general database app but it syncs OK between Macs
and iOS.

You can generate acceptable forms in it. They're not as pretty as
Bento's (RIP) but Tap Forms is more programmable.

Thanks. looks like a more generic solution. It mentions barcode scanning
and do you know if does anything with the scan like autofill film metadata?

DVDpedia has served me reasonably well - it's even possible to drag from
Finder into the app, and it'll catalogue films with metadata from that.

However, I'm not sure if it'll work for new users as it's out of support - I
happened to buy it when it was active. Try:

Don’t know anymore, how many need this these days (I ended up giving away
my DVD collection last year). It’s a bit of a niche market now.

The only other thing I came across was this;

https://www.collectorz.com/movie/movie-connect

Although it does have a bit of a hefty subscription fee (or is it?). It was
linked to from the old ‘Pure-Mac’ site.

And I meant to add, that I used to just keep my movie collection catalogued
in a Numbers spreadsheet.

Yes, I'd imagine it is, with streaming. It so happens I've amassed quite a few
films etc. I've saved on disk.

I found DVDpedia useful to catalogue ripped copies of my DVDs - it generates
TMDB-based metadata and syncs to the iPhone (or did, I've not checked for a
while). It's also got a few export functions - including export to csv.

That's what I did with mine before ditching them. We decided we're on a
long term plan to downsize before retirement (7 years left for me. So I
ripped the ones I might want to watch again (I used MDRP).

I'm at a point now where I have no discs left, and nothing to play them
on any more. The storage of them was becoming a right PITA, and it's
tidied up the TV cabinet a bit too.

I have stored the files in the AppleTV app, and use an external HDD to
keep the media on, connected to my MacBook. That way I can easily stream
them to one of the Apple TVs I have, or any device in the house - or
indeed, download a few onto my iPad when we go away.

It's no longer necessary to monitor what I have now, as we don't have
any drives left in the house, we don't buy physical discs now.

The annoyance with streaming is that the film I saw was available the other
week is now no longer there. The choice is also terrible as they're more
interested in pushing new content which is primarily series.

That’s certainly one thing that’s frustrating for sure. Especially when
they start showing them on a different service later on.

Depends on your needs, expectations, and the value it gives you for the
amount you’ll use the apps.

In the grand scheme of things, this is fairly usual now.

Not saying I like subscriptions, but we seem to have little choice now.
