My iMac has taken to asking me several times a day to enter the password for
my outlook.com address. This is a recent phenomenon; I've been using it for
years with no trouble.

My iPad and iPhone are making no such demand, only the iMac.

I've tried deleting the account and reestablishing it, without effect.

Any suggestions as to what, if anything, can be done to stop this? It's a
nuisance.

I have three other mail accounts, with Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo and iCloud;
no problems there.

Old John.

Same problem here and I’ve tried what you’ve done to no avail. I just press
Cancel when the pop up occurs and all seems well until the next time. I’ll
have a search to see if there’s a known issue.

This requires careful thought. There's a lot to read.

It seems unnecessarily complex. But this is one of my main addresses, and it
would involve an awful lot of effort to discard it.

I've got them in PDF, I'll read them in the hope that can understand what is
going on.

I've followed the instructions on the link below and set it up to be an
Exchange account, thus enabling "modern authentication". So far so good.

Issues here too today. I wonder if there’s a server fault.

I’ve got the little lightning icon next to the Outlook in Mail, and no
amount of attempts to fix it are working here.

So far I’ve tried re-entering my password, I did have an App password set,
but it’s not recognised. I tried my Outlook login password, which didn’t
work either (to be expected I guess). I also tried revoking the password,
and creating a new one - still not recognised. I’ve now removed the
account, and can’t add it again.

Ok, so this is only affecting the MacBook, which is on OS 13.6.4. The
iDevices are working fine with it.

It seems it might be to do with the updates MS have done to the login
security options. I've followed all the instructions I can find, but
it's just not recognising my login credentials.

My Sonoma Mac and my Monterey Mac seem Ok now having followed the
instructions re Exchange accounts. I’ve yet to touch Mojave . Like you all
my iDevices are running Apple Mail fine and I’ve yet to see the password
prompt on them.

All these papers refer to Organisations and Admins. ButI am a private
individual as far as Outlook.com is concerned and know nothing about
Exchange365. (My Exchange account is different, it's provided by the Institute
of Physics. No problem there.)

But I'll experiment and see what happens. Later, I've a busy mornng ahead.

Old John.

Yes it’s rather odd that I was able to successfully use Exchange type
settings without being part of an organisation. Perhaps MS will spot what
I’ve done and demand payment in addition to my Office365 sub or disconnect
me in some way?

The iPhone and iPad have now asked for the password again. However, they
are working with the main login password and 2FA. The MacBook is not
doing that, and not recognising the App password I created either.

I've tried using the 'Exchange' setup, and the 'Other' mail account
setup. Neither is working.

Yet it's still working OK for me - very odd :( Do you have an Office365 sub?

Not on my account I don't.

I'll try again perhaps, although it's not really a huge issue, as I
don't tend to use the MacBook that much for most tasks, it's mostly
there as a media server. It's just irritating when something doesn't
work ;-).

On the plus side, I have just got Chuck Yeager's Air Combat working very
well in Basilisk. So not everything is bad. :-)
