This afternoon a particularly loud biplane flew overhead. It sounded
vaguely Spitfire-ish, so probably had a Kestrel engine. It certainly had
a fairly pointed nose. As usual, I didn't have a camera to hand.
Quite a compact looking aircraft, with rounded wingtips.
Is there any record of a Hawker Fury/Hart/Nimrod or similar flying
today? Whatever it was, it was lovely to see.

Google has failed me.

One of those situations where a Tesla brain implant would come in
really handy, share the image you saw like.
I believe some propeller driven planes can be noisy if the tips of the
prop exceed the sound barrier in certain situations, revs, pitch or
summat.

Assuming that the aeroplane in question is bleeping away you may be in luck.

Interesting site! Sadly, no sign of the biplane. Lots of Pipers and
twin-engined airliners though.

This Wikipedia page speaks of an airworthy Fury at Duxford, and mentions
another one being restored to static display:

Coud well have been. Trouble is, Hawker built a number of very
similar-looking aircraft that were generally painted silver. Haven't
heard it from work (just off the Duxford downwind leg), so might have
been a one-off test flight.

Last time I saw something interesting (a US carrier plane) it was easy
to identify from a news article.
