Is there a way - without losing data?

Sites like this suggest that it might once have been an option in Disk
Utility, but I can't see it here (Sonoma, Intel iMac):

It's a lie, the giveaway is the original disk being named UNTITLED in
caps meaning it's FAT format not NTFS. And no, that option doesn't
exist.

The site appears to be a shitty semi-generated content farm.

Only by copying the data somewhere safe while reformatting the disk and
then putting it back.
