Well there used to be a lot of those about, indeed one actually had two pick
ups on either side. The main snag was that they tended to rumble and were
none too reliable either with all their weird mechanics.

I often wondered if a tilted turntable might be better so the record was
under water at one side. Wet playing vinyl tends to make it a lot less
static prone and also the grooves are clear as the muck is in suspension.
Great if you don't mind playing records wearing your marigold gloves.
